Take in all refugues that come then have all move into the glamorous metal bodies. You might instead of going Biological take the Synthetic path as now you can use the worlds with out a malus for doing so. But say for some reason by major luck, you found a great number of large worlds and even got the Boal precurser chain and on of the planets found the Planetary Machine Archaelogy site which will lead to Defragmentor Relic. Most of the time, it could be better to go Bio path as a dweller.
And don't forget the existance of commerical pacts/federations, now your buddies are getting less of what you are converting trade into. I had a few games where I had to drop thrifty, it didn't hurt my energy gen too much but it dropped my unity production by a nominal number and couldn't flood the Market place with cheap Consumer goods anymore. As my standard is Void Dwelling Megacorp with trade focus. True, I can't speak for non void dwelling trade empires. And I'll occasionally take stuff like Shared Destiny if I'm playing a diplomacy-based build, but otherwise nah. Otherwise, I only ever take One Vision, Technological Ascendancy, Executive Vigor, and Mastery of Nature as filler perks/for my first few perks when I don't have anything else unlocked.

Regarding ascension perks I never take, I'd include Eternal Vigilance, Consecrated Worlds (I'm currently playing a spiritual empire though, so feel free to sell me on it!), Interstellar Dominion, Nihilistic Acquisition, Enigmatic Engineering, Grasp the Void, and Transcendent Learning (what's the point of this one, really, when you can easily get to leader cap 10 by other means?). I usually take Galactic Force Projection though and I probably would take Arcology Project too if I had MegaCorp.
It helps that there aren't that many critical, gameplay-changing perks apart from those, the different flavors of evolutions, and Galactic Wonders. Otherwise, yeah, it's a must-pick along with Voidborne most of the time.
